Smokie Blue Rabbitry

No longer an active rabbitry but a piece of my history...

         UPDATE 8-12-13

Smokie Blue Rabbitry is NOT an active rabbitry.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

It's ALWAYS been about the bunnies...

I walked into a pet store one Saturday morning in the fall of 2004. I was JUST LOOKING! I had had "Backyard mutt" rabbits all my life, but on this day I found something I'd never seen before - a "fancy" little bunny called a Jersey Wooly.

I struck up a conversation with one of the employees and asked if I could hold her. He reached to get her out of her cage. The little ball of fluff cowered in the back. I asked if I could give it a try. I sat down on the floor in front of the cage and talked to her for a minute or two and she jumped into my arms! I looked up at my husband, who had come looking to see what had me so engrossed, and said, "She's coming home with us!" And so started my life as "mom" to a little fancy rabbit, my baby girl I named Smokie Blue.

In 2005, I met a woman who bred Jersey Woolies and was introduced to the world of showing rabbits. (It's a lot like the dog shows you see on TV.) I was HOOKED!

And so, Smokie Blue Rabbitry was born...

On October 15, 2007, we lost Smokie. It was devastating to say the least, especially when we lost her best friend, our yellow Lab, Lady, almost a month  to the day later. But Smokie's legacy lives on. And all the future little ones will know they owe it all to a pet store bunny...
